What is Epoxy?

An epoxy coating is a coating compound consisting of two distinct elements: an epoxy resin and a polyamine hardener (also known as a catalyst). When the epoxy coating is fully cured, the resulting product is a durable, rigid plastic coating with numerous desirable mechanical properties.

Epoxy coatings are durable coatings that can be used for a variety of purposes from strong adhesives to durable paint and coatings for floors and metals. Epoxy coatings are created through the generation of a chemical reaction using an epoxide resin and a polymine hardener.

Epoxy Paint vs Coating

Epoxy paint is simply that – a paint. It’s easy as a DIY project. An epoxy coating is typically made up of two-parts — a resin and a hardener — which most will need professional help to ensure long-lasting results.

One of the most important things to bear in mind when choosing between the epoxy coating or epoxy paint is the durability. If you simply want to improve the appearance of your floor, then epoxy paint is ideal. However, if you want to improve an area that is traffic-heavy and at risk of chemical spillage, then the epoxy coating is a much better option. Epoxy floor paint is more durable than traditional latex paint, but it won’t hold up to stains, chemicals, and abrasions as well as epoxy coating.

LOFT, SELF-LEVELING CONCRETE

Polished Overlays (also referred as polished toppings) are cementitious self-leveling materials that are poured over a floor and then polished like standard concrete.

Polished Overlays are ideal for covering up floors with poor existing concrete conditions such as unevenness, large holes, cracks and other variations. This will provide a more even and consistent finish relative to polishing existing concrete.

RAW SEALED

A Sealed Concrete finish is a concrete floor which is grinded to a smooth finish and sealed clear. A variety of different sealers and coatings can be used to finish the floor including acrylic sealers, urethane coatings and epoxy coatings, which is what makes it sealed concrete rather than Polished Concrete. While polished concrete floors may also use sealers, Sealed Concrete differs in that the floor is not honed and polished to the same level of sheen and finish as in a polished concrete floor.
